It's said as a game store owner you don't get a lot of time to actually play games. I can definitely confirm. My wife, Amanda, and I are generally working on, or in, the business. We have a monthly staff game night, and I get a chance to play Magic a few times a month...but in general we don't have unfettered hours available to play games.
We started Moonshot with the express goal of helping folks game in person, and not on screens...so this post is a bit "do as I say, not as I do." Apologies. But hear me out.
I think doing too much of anything is a problem. Video games are addicting. They provide quick dopamine hits and are designed and optimized to keep players engaged. And because of this I've seen folks spend 12 hours a day playing Fortnite, Call of Duty, or League of Legends.
For me, I've avoided games like this for fear of getting sucked in. I like to be good at things. And I like to win. And games like this require a significant investment of time (and money).
So lately, I've been looking for a simple phone app that I can play in 3 minute intervals. Something I can level up in over time but doesn't require any money to be competitive. And something I can turn off for a month if I need to without losing my place.
I found the game.
Clash Royale is a free-to-play real-time strategy video game developed and published by Supercell. The game combines elements from collectible card games, tower defense, and multiplayer online battle arenas. For me, it checks all the boxes without fueling an addiction.
I started a Clan for Moonshot. Join me? My username is RubyFire.
