Welcoming admirers from all over the world, Lady Liberty (formal name “Liberty Enlightening the World”) was a gift from the people of France dedicated in 1886, raising her torch on Liberty Island in New York Harbor. To her left in this view are the Chrysler Building which was the world’s tallest skyscraper until the Empire State Building was completed in 1931, a title it held for nearly 40 years. To the right is One World Trade Center, also known as Freedom Tower, the main building in the rebuilt complex and the tallest in the United States.
