Pokémon Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars Logo

Welcome to the ninth main expansion of cards from the Sword & Shield Series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Brilliant Stars! Brilliant Stars was released in February 2022 and introduces a new kind of Pokémon variant, VSTAR. According to Pokémon, Pokémon VSTAR evolves from Pokémon V. Each Pokémon VSTAR has a high HP and a potent VSTAR Power. VSTAR Powers are either a powerful Ability or Attack, and each player can only use one VSTAR Power per game NOT per Pokémon. Once a Pokémon VSTAR is knocked out, 2 Prize cards are rewarded (Pokemon) (Bulbapedia).

The corresponding Japanese set, Star Birth, was released on January 14th, 2022 while the English set, Brilliant Stars, was released on February 25, 2022. When Brilliant Stars was released, Japan released two VSTAR Starter Sets, Lucario VSTAR Starter Set and Darkrai VSTAR Starter Set. The main focal Pokémon in Brilliant Stars is Arceus. Brilliant Stars pulls cards from Star Birth expansion such as the Start Deck 100 and the VMAX Climax. Each Star Birth pack contains five cards v.s each Brilliant Stars Booster pack comes with ten cards, a card code for the Pokémon TCG Live, and a basic Energy card (Bulbapedia).

Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars

Sword & Shield: Brilliant Stars introduces four new VSTAR Pokémon: Arceus, Charizard, Shaymin, Whimsicott. Each Brilliant Stars Booster pack comes with ten cards, a card code for the Pokémon TCG Live, and a basic Energy card. Brilliant Stars also features 20 Pokémon V cards, 3 Pokémon VMAX cards, and a subset of 30 Trainer Gallery cards. This is to show that VSTAR is not a replacement for Pokémon V or Pokémon VMAX especially since Pokémon VSTAR evolves from Pokémon V. All the Pokémon VSTAR also have a rainbow rare version within Brilliant Stars Expansion (Thegamer.com).

Therefore, it wins in all the important categories: Pokémon, art, and strength.
