Moonshot Rips Official Battle Ruleset v1.0
Moonshot Official Battle Ruleset v1.0
Welcome to Moonshot Rips battles — a live pack-opening experience built around competition, community, and unforgettable moments. While individual battle formats may introduce unique twists, the following rules serve as the official foundation for all standard Moonshot battles unless otherwise announced during the stream or listed on the product page.
1. Battle Participation
- Each participant receives the packs assigned to their battle slot.
- All cards opened belong to the participant who opened them unless otherwise stated in the battle description.
- All battles include shipping.
- Purchasing a battle spot unlocks free shipping for all additional orders placed during that livestream session.
- Battle spots are generally limited to one per participant unless otherwise announced.
- Moonshot staff reserve the right to adjust battle structures, seating, or participation limits for pacing, fairness, or stream flow.
2. How Winners Are Determined
Most Moonshot battles use a Converted Mana Cost (CMC) format.
In this format:
- The player with the highest total CMC of qualifying rares and mythics wins the featured high-score prize.
- The player with the lowest total CMC of qualifying rares and mythics wins the featured low-score prize.
- Only qualifying rares and mythics count toward scoring unless otherwise stated in the battle listing.
Certain battle formats may also feature:
- Bounty prizes
- Jackpot cards
- Achievement bonuses
- Team scoring
- Alternate victory conditions
3. CMC Rules
Standard CMC Values
- Lands = 0 CMC
- X in mana costs = 0
- Suspend cards without a printed mana cost = 0
- Phyrexian mana symbols count as 1 each
- Hybrid mana symbols count as the highest possible value
Examples:
- {2/G} counts as 2
- {U/P} counts as 1
4. Special Card Handling
Double-Faced Cards
If both sides of a card contain unique playable characteristics, both mana values are added together for total CMC.
Adventure / Omen Cards
Both the main spell/creature and the Adventure or Omen cost are included in total CMC.
Split Cards
Both halves of a split card are combined for total CMC scoring.
Foils & Special Treatments
Foils, showcases, textured cards, alternate art, and other premium variants count according to their printed rarity and do not receive additional scoring bonuses.
Bonus Sheet / Insert Cards
List cards, bonus sheet cards, and insert cards count according to their printed rarity unless specifically overridden in the battle description.
Time Spiral Remastered
All old-border bonus sheet cards from Time Spiral Remastered count as rares.
5. Tie Breakers
If two or more players finish with the same final CMC total, the following tiebreak system will be used in order:
1. Highest Single-Card CMC
The tied player with the single highest individual qualifying rare or mythic CMC wins the tiebreak.
2. Lowest Single-Card CMC
If still tied, the tied player with the single lowest qualifying rare or mythic CMC wins.
3. Sudden Death Pack
If players remain tied after both tiebreakers:
- Each tied player will receive one additional play booster pack selected by the streamer.
- The highest qualifying rare or mythic CMC opened in the Sudden Death Pack wins.
- If still tied, additional Sudden Death Packs may be opened until a winner is determined.
Sudden Death Packs are intended to create exciting live moments and definitive battle outcomes.
6. Stream & Ruling Authority
Moonshot Rips staff maintain final authority regarding:
- Card interpretations
- Scoring disputes
- Product defects
- Pack irregularities
- Stream errors
- Technical difficulties
- Rule clarifications
Our priority is maintaining a fair, fast-moving, and community-focused battle environment.
7. Community Expectations
Moonshot battles are competitive, but community always comes first.
Participants are expected to:
- Respect fellow players and stream staff
- Avoid toxic or disruptive behavior
- Not exploit loopholes or technical issues
- Accept final rulings made during the stream
Moonshot reserves the right to remove participants from battles or future events for harassment, fraud, chargeback abuse, or conduct deemed harmful to the community.
8. The Spirit of Moonshot Battles
Moonshot battles are about more than winning.
They’re about the giant hit.
The impossible comeback.
The one-point loss.
The screaming chat reaction.
The memory people talk about long after the stream ends.
We’re here to celebrate the greatest game ever made together and create experiences worth coming back for.
Onward!
